Jon is about the coolest friend I've ever had. He got me a couple of DMB CDs. This is really thoughtful because most of my CDs were stolen a couple of years ago including all my DMB CDs. He got me Live at Red Rocks and Remember Two Things. I got Jon and Erin matching books on how to be a better husband/wife respectively. The books have quotes from husbands and wives on how the respective partner should be a better spouse. Jon and Erin have been married almost a year, so I thought it would be an appropriate gift. They both liked the books. :o ) I still have a few gifts I need to give, but hopefully everyone will like what I got them.

I'm going to kill my immune system

I'm sick for the third time this autumn/winter. I picked up a cold from my mum, who picked it up from her sister. Meh, I think I'll go work out and spread disease to all those around me.

Christmas was cool. I love my family. My aunt is cool and her sons are the cutest. Yes I said cute. I'm in full brain fart mode today.

Weekends need to be longer.

Ahhh...Had a great weekend. I thought Friday was going to be boring, but I ended up going to downtown SJ with my buddy Leonard. We were originally going to hang out this place that a gypsy band playing. I got there a few minutes before Leonard so I went in check it out and to see if Leonard had arrived. Upon walking in I noticed that there were nothing but middle aged people inside. So not what we were looking for that night. I didn't know if Leonard was going to show or not, so I decided to walk back to my car. As I was walking back I just happened to run into Leonard as he was parking his car. I told him about swingers night at the other place and suggested we go to this other place called The Britannia Arms. One of my housemates bounces around there and we went there one night to hang out. I liked the place. So we walked the half block down to the bar. It was pretty packed inside but it had a good atmosphere. Leonard and I grabbed a guinness and talked about shit the whole night. I guess we were there at the bar for maybe a couple of hours and we both went our separate ways after that.

Saturday was absolutely beautiful. I woke up sort of late but it kind of felt like one of those days. I had some breakfast and just relaxed in my room a bit. I got a call from Scott about Gina's party that night and the alcohol we would need. Scott just got his bartending certification and was using Gina's party as practice. He called from BevMo because he was in the process of picking up some liquor for that night. After our convo I headed to BevMo to pick up some alcohol also. I got a bottle of Jagermeister, Myer's Dark Rum, and some Red Bull; Sugar free of course.

Since it was such a nice day I went for a run which I hadn't done for some time because I had hurt my ankle earlier that week. An absolutely perfect day for a run. I guess I went a few miles until I ended up at a park where I did a lap or two. A little aside here; I didn't have any pockets in my shorts, actually I did but didn't find out until later. Anyway my running shorts did have a little "pocket" on the inside where you could keys and stuff. Well that's what I did; I put my house key and my MP3 player in the little pocket for my little run. During my run I was constantly checking the pocket to may sure the key was still there for fear that it might fall out. Well when I finally get back home I check the pocket again, and the key was gone. Luckily, per usual actually, the front door was unlocked.

I was a little pissed at myself for losing the key but was already coming up with a contingency plan for getting back into the house later. I would leave both backdoors unlocked so I could sneak in through the side gate and then through the back. I was thinking about this as I was getting undressed for the showers. In the process of thinking I stick my hands in my pockets, which made me smack my forehead for my total spasticness. I decide to check my little pocket one more time just to see if the key was there, and then I realize something. My shorts have an inner lining just like swimming shorts do. I reach down into my shorts and fiddle around a bit and discover my key! I sort f realized that I felt something cold smacking against my bum as I was running. All along it was my key. D'oh. Well I took a shower then a brief nap before heading off to Scott's place for Gina's party.

More later. Need to work now.

Oy. I knew there was a reason I don't play video games much anymore. I stayed up until 2am playing Return of The King with my housemate. I don't exactly know how my brain is functioning right now.

D.L.

So I've been sort out of sorts lately because I sprained my ankle on Monday playing basketball. I was going up for a rebound and when I landed my left foot came down on another person's foot. I didn't really feel it at the time, but a few hours after the game my ankle was hurting. Luckily it wasn't as bad as the other guy. Later in the game he ran into his teammate and somehow twisted his ankle. He had to go to the doctor because his ankle had swollen up. He's now out for a minimum of 6 weeks. Well as a result of my ankle sprain I haven't been able to workout or do much of anything, and it's left me feeling lethargic and tired. I miss working out. I've also noticed I have a bunch of aches and pains all over my body. Here's a short list of things that hurt:

-Lower back
-Right inner thigh
-Right leg in general
-Upper right arm around the deltoids
-Trapezius muscles
-Left side of abdominal muscles
-My aformentioned left ankle

Yeah, I don't know why I hurt so much. I've just been ignoring most of the pain. Hopefully this time I've been recuperating from my ankle sprain will allow my other injuries to go away too. I don't want to fall apart.

Playing poker tonight at my place. Twill be fun.

Holiday party this weekend at a friends place. I'm really looking forward to the party. I'm going to dress up somewhat nice. I'm sure I'll have more stuff to type, but I'll do that later.

Outrage at the outrage

12.14.2004
Here's an article about a relatively small group of people who are apparently changing the entire landscape of television today.

Silly People

This sort of reminds me of militant Star Trek fans. Those who like a new episode, let's say, don't say a word, or if they do it's a few fleeting words of praise. Those on the other hand who don't like a new episode go on 10 paragraph tirades critiquing every minutae in that episode that they don't like. Soon the complaining bandwagons and it's not just a few people complaining but a rampaging, though still rather small, nerd horde who are determined to get the show off the air and shout loud enough until someone actually notices. This all despite the fact that most of their complaints are without warrant and quite a few folks actually like the show. So yeah the Parents Television Council is really just a bunch of Star Trek nerds with too much time on their hands.

Nice To Be Here by Shane Nicholson

Pack all the good wins safe on the shelf
Stuck in an orbit around yourself
Hand over hand and keeping the score
It's just not music anymore
Finding a mountain and beating it flat
We've got nothing if we don't have that

I feel
It's nice to be
It's nice to be here

Shut off the bright lights and come back to earth
You had a good time for all that it's worth
Prize of the year just came into bloom
A time bomb ticking in an a crowded room

I feel
It's nice to be
It's nice to be here

(Find a mountain and we're beating it flat)
So why don't we stay ?
(We've got nothing if we don't have that)
Cause out there everyone's
(Catch the victory that slips through the crack)
Got a price to pay
(We've got nothing if we don't have that)
And it could be our finest hour

You left a message on my breath
I'm so alive I'm scared to death
It might be raging war outside
But I'm always ready for one more ride
And you shot a spark from a catherine wheel

Into the last 16! yay!

12.08.2004
The football team I follow in England managed to beat the Greek team they were playing in a European football club tournament called the UEFA Champions league. Yay! Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool Captain, was talking about how a loss would not be acceptable because he wants to play in the Champions League next year. There have been transfer rumours surrounding him ever since the summer when he turned down an offer from a London club called Chelsea. However, even if Liverpool don't finish in the top four of the Premiership, they could win the Champions League and play that way. Hopefully Liverpool continue their good form into the final 16 of the CL and try to improve their away form in the Premiership. This Saturday is the big Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool. This match is all the more important because Everton is currently third in the table while Liverpool is 7th. A win for Liverpool would be key as it would earn them more points and get them a step closer to a Champions League spot and maybe even the title by the end of the year. A win for Everton would see them keep the pressure on the top two teams Chelsea and Arsenal. I'm hoping for something good on Saturday.

Someone set us up the bomb(old reference I know)

Saw Hero last night at Sean's place. Leonard, Ann, Scott, to whom I gave a ride, and Liz, the girl Sean's been seeing were all there. Hero is a beautiful movie if a bit soap operish. I told my Chinese coworker about seeing Hero and he mentioned that those types of movies are called Chopstick Westerns, analagous to Spaghetti Westerns I suppose. A visually stunning movie nonetheless. While the credits were rolling I started talking about the credits from The Incredibles and how they're animated to give them perspective as they scroll up. Sean happened to have a "special" version of The Incredibles on DVD. He brought out the DVD so we could see the end credits. After 15 minutes of trying to fast forward through the movie, we get to the end credits and the movie cuts off just the scrolly part starts. Since that was a bust, we instead start to watch the movie. About 10 minutes into the movie Sean turns on the "Engrish" subtitles and the fun begins. The translation had almost nothing to do with what was being said on screen. There would be random "fucks" or other words that made no sense sprinkled throughout the subtitles. We were all laughing our asses off. It was getting late at about that time and I noticed Scott was getting tired, so I drove him back home and then myself. Another good night with the friends. Hehe, I gave Scott The Chapelle Show season 1 DVD set last night as a hanukkah gift, and the first thing he said was "it's hanukkah today?" hehe.

Oooh today seemed to be a food day here at work. I brought in some oranges and crackers. Another person brought in homemade cookies, and yet another person brought me a sandwich. The sandwich was awesome by the way. It was a roll that had some cooked marinated meat in it plus a vegetable assortment containing, pickled onions, carrots, cucumbers and corriander; Heavily Asian influenced sandwich. I don't think I've had one quite like that before. Friday I'm going to go to the local Asian food market and pick up some stuff to bring to work.

I'm starting to not like the cold. I used to like a lot, but this was when I had plenty of self-insulation. Now due to a lack of said insulation I'm constantly cold and it's getting on my nerves. I've even resorted to taking relatively hot showers. I say relatively because I'm still a wuss about hot things so my hot shower might not necessarily be hot to someone else. I really can't wait until Spring and Summer come around again so we can have some nice hot weather. I never thought I would ever say that.

Today buy Secret Santa gift and get a new headlamp bulbs for my Heep.

I had somewhat of an off day yesterday. First I cut my lip shaving yesterday, then during basketball I get whacked in the nuts. This consequently left me with an odd stomach ache not to mention my balls feeling out of place. On my way to catch the train to MNF I actually miss the train up to Belmont as I was paying for my ticket at the ticket dispenser. I was going to wait for the next train but it started to rain so I thought to myself fuck it and drove up instead. I couldn't drink anything because of my stomach ache which wasn't necessarily bad because I'm on my "diet" again. I had a good time hanging out nonetheless. Gina was there of course. I'm thinking of asking her out for dinner or something later this week. Anyway hopefully today will be a bit better than yesterday.

Do we match?

12.06.2004
So I come into work today and two of my coworkers are wearing very similar striped shirts. I then look at my other coworker and see he is wearing a dark red shirt over a black shirt, which happens to be what I'm wearing today also. Weird.

You know, I used to like the cold, but I'm beginning to change my mind. I cannot feel my hands right now because they are so cold, and I'm having a hard time type consequently. I'm going to move to someplace hotter. I can't stand being cold anymore.

Oh and I'm back on my "diet." I want to lose a few more pounds before Christmas so I don't end up weighing too much after the holidays. mmm...turkey culets, brown rice, and green beans! Oh well, at least I like the brown rice.

I have half a mind.

Another good weekend. Friday went to a little birthday celebration for an acquaintance. Nobody could decide where we could go. I suggested a few places, one of them being Fridays which ended up being our final destination. I had this awesome burger called the jalapeño burger. They fry up little jalapeño slices in batter and then put them on top of the burger. I must say it was the best burger I've had in quite a while. I woke up with a mean stomach ache at four the next morning, but it was worth it. After dinner, Gina, Scott, myself, and one of Gina's former neighbors went to Ausiello's. A bar near Gina's. We all hung there for a few hours, played some shufflepuck, and talked a lot. Gina and I share a lot of personality characteristics. We also share a lot of the same interests. It's sort of odd. Odd enough that Scott said we share the same brain, which Gina echoed the next night at dinner. I'll talk about that later. After the bar we dropped Gina back off at her place, but I noticed that my Jeep's interior lights weren't turning off. Scott and I spent the next 15 minutes trying to figure out the problem to no avail. I ended up driving Scott back to his place and then to my place with my interior lights on. I disconnected the battery so it wouldn't be drained the next day.

I woke up somewhat late on Saturday, lounged around a bit and then did some research on my car problem. I've isolated it to either one of the door switches being screwy, or an internal module acting up. For now I disconnected the relay for the internal lights. Not a big deal. I'll take it in to my mechanic when I have the time.

The night before Gina said she was planning to head up to the city with the birthday girl last night. She had suggested that we could grab some food beforehand and then meet up with everyone. Well she wasn't feeling well and decided not to go to the city, but she was still up for dinner and even a movie. She wanted to see Closer and I had no problems with that. We decided we would go see a late afternoon showing and then grab some Ethiopian food. Gina had called Scott to see if he wanted to head out with us, but he was at a wedding party doing his first bartending gig. There was a possiblity that he was going to show up later, but that never came to fruition. Consequently, it was me and Gina all night.

Closer was a really good movie. All the major intricacies relationships played on the screen. I would certainly see it again, just see if I missed anything the first time. All the leads put in excellent performances. Althought I think Natalie Portman maybe getting typecast as the wispy/mysterious/cool/hippy girl a bit too much. Her character was a little bit like her role in Garden State.

Now I had tried to call the place at which we going to have dinner, but I got a "this number has been disconnected or is no longer in use" message each time I called. This worried me a bit because I thought it might be close, so I printed up directions to another Ethiopian restaurant that happened to be in the area also. Unfortunately the first restaurant was closed, so we headed to the second restaurant. Gina and I had a nice conversation about family and stuff. After a little parking adventure we found a spot and headed into the restaurant. The place we went to was called Shebele Ehtiopian Restaurant. This place was almost like someone took part of their house and turned it into a restaurant. It had a very homey feeling to it, which we both really liked. Since both of us really like spicy foods we ordered the two spiciest things on the menu. One was a chicken dish, the other was a spicy beef item. The spicy beef thing is supposedly very traditional and not many people order it on their first try. It's a dish where the beef is diced up and mixed with peppers and spices, I noted a very strong presence of cardamom, and served raw, although ours was served medium-rare. Oh my god, the food was good. You eat the food with your hand by picking it up with bread that they give you. The bread is very spongy, it was different but very good. Oh and it was nice and spicy. It all went really well with the beer that we drank. Anyway Gina and I had another nice conversation about scary movies, past relationships, and cartoons. I really enjoyed dinner with Gina. I also loved the food. I would go back there without any hesitations.

After dinner we headed back to my place, where Gina had parked her car and then we said our goodbyes. A great night with a great girl.

I went to sleep at about 1:10 after a surprise phonecall from Scott. I think I was half asleep already when he called. I don't remember much of the conversation.

Sunday was about as uneventful as anyone can imagine. I just did errands and downloaded musak. I like lazy Sundays. I slept in until noon.

Back to work tomorrow and then up to Ausiello's for some MNF. Get to Gina again probably and hang out with everyone else. Yay!

I would forget myself if I didn't carry my mind around with me.

Ah, it's the weekend again!

12.03.2004
I played poker with the guys on Wednesday night. Just the four of us but there's something about shooting the shit with guys that's just cool.

Didn't get to go out with Gina last night because she couldn't get out of work early. Reschedule there, but I'm going to see her tonight since it's another friend's birthday.

So since no dinner last night, I went to see a preview of a movie called Coach Carter with my roommate. He got a free pass from a friend with whom he works. The movie is sort of like Stand and Deliver, or Lean On Me in terms of how it revolves around a bunch of misfit kids who have a lot of potential but need a guiding and disciplinary influence to bring out that potential. It started rather quick, but it settled into a nice pace after. I think if they had extended the intro a bit to further illustrate just how bad the Richmond bball team was, it would have made their turnaround into an undefeated team that much more amazing. I also thought that the movie was a bit too neat and formulaic. I was half expecting a montage showing their training and progress, and at the end they would be great basketball players. I don't think there was one, but this sort of movie almost needs one. Anyhow, I liked the movie. I got chills everytime a great shot was made or when they won a crucial game. Not the best thing out there but it's better some of the other crap that's being made nowadays.

Signing off for now. This is Jay Jacinto reporting for Entertainment Tonight.
