Well I'm going to run a full marathon in Anchorage, Alaska in June. I'm really excited. I met a lot of people at the Team In Training kickoff meeting tonight. I'm going to be setting up a website so I can take donations for the run. I need to raise at least $3800, and it's a great cause. I know I can do it with a little help from my friends.

maybe not for long

And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone

Lean, mean...fat...I'm not George Foreman

Well I've been trying to lose weight lately, but I haven't been very successful. At least that's what the scale say, but I think I'm getting leaner and actually putting on some more muscle mass. I'm actually starting to see some definition in my abs of all things and my pants are becoming more loose...again.

Sunday, Bloody Great Sunday!

I woke up relatively early on Sunday to get tickets for U2 in April, and I managed to score floor tickets! I'm totally amazed that I was able to get tickets at all. I also think I was the first person to get tickets because my "seating" assignment says I'm in row 0 seats 1 & 2. How freakin' lucky is that?!? I'm so jazzed! I think I'm more excited for this than I have been for any DMB concert!

Why am I up at this time?

I think I ran 6 miles yesterday. I couldn't tell though. Yay for running!

Gotta get up gotta get out

I just had one of Judy's Breadsticks with some turkey chili from Piazza's. The best bread on earth. I'm so full, but it was so worth it.

He's going the distance...he's going for speed...

So theoretically I could run a 10k right now. I did four miles on an elliptical and then another two and change on the tread mill. I didn't really feel that tired after either, so this is a good sign that I can at least maybe do a half marathon with a bit more training. My real goal is to run a full marathon, but I don't know how much that involves. The TNT thing I signed up for has an informational meeting this Monday where hopefully I can pick up some information.

Running For Life

1.27.2005
I signed up for this about a week ago, and I'll hopefully be able to run a marathon by the end of the year. I've been running a lot lately trying to increase my stamina. I can run about 4-5 miles right now, but this weekend I'm going to try a long run of at least 10 miles. I just need to find a route long enough to accomodate my run...

I drove across the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time last weekend. As I was driving across, I did the tourist thing and took pictures. I'll get the pictures up by this weekend I think, but they'll mostly be of my arm and various parts of my Jeep. It's hard simultaneously driving and being a photograhper.

Last Saturday, Scott, Gina, Karla, Michelle, and I went up to North Beach in the city for some pizza and drinks. I was the chauffeur that night. Whenever I'm the driver I always seem to have little adventures. Originally I was just going to drive Scott and myself up to the city, but then Michelle asked for a ride, then Gina, and then Karla. So I picked up Scott, headed up the 101 and then picked up Gina, so far no problems. I didn't get back on the freeway but instead went up one of the major roads here called El Camino Real to then pick up Michelle. Again no problems. No here's where the fun begins. I have no clue where Karla lives, so I asked her to give directions to Scott for her place because I would forget if she told me. We're driving up another freeway called the 280 looking for the "Monterrey Rd." exit as per Karla's directions. We keep on driving, and driving, and driving, until we reach the city and the end of the freeway. Gina calls Karla up and Karla says the exit is on the South bound side of the freeway! lol. I make a U-turn, which isn't necessarily an easy thing in the city, and get back on the 280 south. We find the Monterrey exit and then off into the side streets we go. Karla lives in a very hilly neighborhood where the roads are steep and narrow. Gina calls Karla again so Karla can give us step by step instructions to her place. About 15 minutes and 1000 vertical feet later, we find Karla's place and pick her up. She and her boyfriend have a really spiffy place. Well with all my passengers in tow, we now finally head into the city again.

The fun doesn't stop yet...

So we get into the city again and head into North Beach. Gina mentions that there is a parking lot with cheap rates right next to a police station. We head into North Beach on Washington and make a right onto Columbus, the main street in North Beach. Just as I do this, Gina sees the parking lot across the intersection. So of course we have to head back, but it's not as simple as making a U-turn. A lot of the streets in San Francisco are one way so in order to make a "U-turn" you have to go around for a bit until you find a block which you can make a loop and then head back to where you came from. Well it took me about 15 minutes of maneuvering in and out of traffic until we finally made it back to the parking structure that Gina saw earlier. We drive in and find parking relatively easy. As we were walking out we see that the "cheap" rate aren't really that cheap but are rather expensive. Evidently this isn't the parking structure Gina was thinking about earlier. We ask the attendant where the police station is so we can find the other parking strcutre and head out again paying the $3 for the 2 minutes that we were in parking structure. Gina finally remembers that the police station is on Pacifica a few blocks up. However she remembers a bit too late and I miss the turn onto Pacifica, so again we have to do the convoluted u-turn to get back onto Pacifica. As we turn on to Pacifica we see the parking structure shining like a beacon piercing the thick coastal fog. We park and head out to the pizza place, which she says has awesome pizza.

Thing was though, she couldn't remember where the pizza place was except that it was on Green and across the street from O'Malley's. We find O'Malley's but rather than the pizza place being across the street a funeral home is there instead. We wander around a bit and finally ask someone for directions while Gina repeatedly mumbles "I thought it was opposite O'Malley's" to herself making her seem quite the asylum candidate. So we get directions and head to the pizza place, which was across the street but it was across a different street.

We settled down, had a few slices, got a pitcher of bud light, and talked for a bit. After we went to Savoy Tivolis just down the block and remained there for the night just hanging out. A good night despite the parking adventures, which I found fun anyway.

Well here's the equation that explains why.

Que hora es?

As I was leaving work yesterday, my coworker Ken asks me if it's 5 o'clock. I say yeah and point up the clock we have hanging on a wall. He then looks at his watch and says "I thought it was 4." Ken just got back from Asia on Saturday and apparently set his watch an hour late, which explains why he came to work at 9 instead of 8 and almost didn't make it to basketball yesterday. The look on his face when he found out was priceless.

WalMart warez.

1.17.2005
I was pulling out of the mall parking lot yesterday, when a guy comes up to me and asks "where'd you get those sunglasses man?" I say "Walmart." He steps back a little surprised and replies "Damn, I paid $200 for my sunglasses and they don't look as good as yours." I just smiled and said "I got them for $10 at Walmart." To which he responds "you keep on walmartin' man."

I can't believe I forgot to post this. This morning my coworker Noor discovered he had a rip in his shirt, so what do me and my fellow engineers do? We fix it. Noor had ripped the part of his shirt pocket, so Jon stapled that back in place after which I put some yellow electrostatic tape behind to prevent movement. I think we spent about 5 minutes fixing my coworker's shirt. It had me and Jon cracking up and the weirdness of it all.

Of course I forget something

Fernando Morientes is coming to Liverpool!!! Yay! We'll finally have another attacking option who isn't injured! I really wish there was some way I could see the match between Liverpool and ManU this weekend because Morientes is likely to make his debut. I miss football!

Bloody hell!

I've been running a lot these last few days trying to build up my stamina, and my legs are killing me! I have this dull aching pain in my thighs that is just really annoying. Well, no pain no gain...

I don't know if I mentioned this, on New Year's weekend me, Scott, Sean, Liz, and I all helped Brett move into his new place up in the city. He's living in SOMA off of Mission. He's got a really nice setup and it's really close to everything. I'm envious of his pad. Well anyway, he's going to be having a a little get together at his place this Saturday to which I am looking forward.

Sean had us over the other night for some pizza and poker, which ended up turning into pizza and Family Guy. Sean makes awesome pizza. When he was cutting one of the pizzas he made, half of it fell on the kitchen floor. He just walked away like it didn't happen. Plausible deniability. Sean's gf Liz is really cool and really tall. She's like 6'1", but Sean is my height. They make a cute couple though.

I started out last week at around 197, I'm back down to 190 right now. I feel great! Whee for weight loss! I made some chili again last night. I tweaked some of the ingredients and added a little lime juice and I got the exact flavor I was looking for. There is one thing I would change though and that is to preseason the ground meat. I think if I do that, then I'll have the perfect chili.

I miss the rain.

Amazing how much change an earthquake can do.

EUREKA!

I figured it out! There was a line of code missing that defines a variable which is used in a preceding loop. The variable was never declared anywhere in the subroutine but somehow the code went through the loop possibly using a previously defined value of the variable stuck somewhere in memory space. Now my tests work again! Yay!

How's this linear?

So I'm currently working on C code translated from Fortran that finds the inverse of a 17x17 matrix using Guassian Elimination. However, the output has two rows that are tranposed for some strange reason. I'm stuck trying to determine if the indeces being used to increment through the 17x17 matrix to create the indentity matrix are incrementing correctly despite the C to Fortran translation.

Index numbers for matrices in Fortran start at one whereas in C they start at zero. In addition, the way in which C references rows and columns is opposite of Fortran. So where C calls Row then Column with the rightmost index incrementing the fastest, Fortran calls Column then Row with the leftmost index incrementing the fastest. It's a bit of challenge trying to sort through this code in my head.

I love the rain

1.08.2005
The bay area has been experiencing a deluge of rain as of late. For the last three weeks rain has come down and I LOVE IT! If there is one thing I miss, it's rain. I always laugh a little inside when I see people running from away from the rain trying to get from one dry place to another. I love just taking my time and strolling about. It is only water. If it's still raining tomorrow, I might go for a run in the rain. Yay!

One thing I've noticed about my running lately is that I've become much faster. The other day I did a little over 4 miles in 30 minutes, so I'm running about an average of 8mph. I remember when I first started running to lose weight, I could barely run for a tenth of a mile before I had to stop and walk for a bit. A few friends of mine are doing this. There's a team event, where they can compete at different levels. We're trying for the Olympic level. I can do the run, and there's a person I know who can do the bike. I just need to find someone to do the swim. I've heard it's like a big party down there. I can't wait! Hopefully by the time May rolls around I can a 10k in a half-hour. Whee!

I never thought a few years ago, that I could do half the stuff I'm physically capable of now. I'm really proud. I should really learn how to swim better though.

I'm happy.

Alias is fucked up.

You killed mom to save me?

I'm going to find whoever did this to our mother and kill him

I love Sloan. He's the kind of bastard you love to hate. I was expecting a little more from the premiere because it seemed very predictable at times. Oh well there's a new SD-6 in town.

I'm serious

So I signed up for this thing:

Discovery Health :: National Body Challenge

to help me lose those final few pounds. Hopefully I'll get a few new insights, tips, and motivation to help me on my way to my goal.

You'll never walk alone

So Liverpool is currently fifth in the Premiership. They came through the busy, 4 games in 9 days, Christmas playing seasons with 4 wins and 1 very disputable loss to Chelsea. What the ref was thinking that game nobody knows. However, I've got a feeling Liverpool is going to go on a run until the end of the season. They seemed to have formed a very cohesive playing unit under Rafa's guidance and are now playing like a team of winners. If they can put together a good run of games, Liverpool could put themselves into second or third by the end of the season. I doubt they could clinch the Premiership this season the way Chelsea is playing right now, but nothing is impossible.

Alias premieres tonight! It'll be interesting to see how last season's finale unravels in tonight's premiere. I really think Milo Rambaldi is a time traveler or some shit.

Oooh, while I was down in Riverside, my mum and I went to a place just off the 15 called Corona Crossings. It's a HUGE shopping center. Well anyway there's a Chic-Fil-A! I didn't end up going, but next time I'm down in the area I'm going to hit up that place.

I made chilli last night. I really didn't have a recipe, so I faked it. The end result however was pretty damn tasty.

I'm still here

1.04.2005
I'm just trying to heal from NYE, NYD, and post-NYD. I do in fact have injuries from the festivies from which I am trying to recover.

In other news, I'm back on the losing weight track. I'm going to lose 20 pounds in the next couple of months and finally get rid of my belly. I've picked up my cardio and am trying to do at least an hour each day. 170 lbs. here I come!

I'm wearing a red sweater.
